Because they are increasingly rare, those p-à-d that remain are likely to catch out those not familiar with an area. Far from traffic calming, I think they are a danger and I have witnessed road rage caused by someone from Paris being "cut up", or so he thought, by someone pulling out of a side road onto the main road in front of him. He gave pursuit and forced the unfortunate innocent driver to halt by overtaking and cutting in on him before pulling open the driver's door and punching him in the face. I'd rather have a "give way" sign where everyone knows where they stand, every time! I've also seen 'close shaves' in town where the side road is obstructed by parked vehicles so the guy on the main road can't even see the side road, never mind the car about to pull out from the right, until he is on top of it.

At the commencement of the siege in 1083, Count Alan Rufus was commander of Willilam's forces at Camp de Beugy. It may have been his fame that drew knights from across Europe to defend the castle, as perhaps they were hoping to be the first to best him in battle.
They haven't said. As usual it isn't clear. But the bike forums and magazines are talking about a reflective arm band so that should suffice http://assurance.moto.kelassur.com/Article/images/actu/brassard-retro-reflechissan.jpg

The fine will be 68€.

Re reflectives on Bikes.. Does the law make it clear whether the whole 150cm2 has to be visible from the front, back, or sides??? Can it be spread over the whole torso? I can forsee lots of little shiny dots appearing!!!

You won't find me arguing with that! What makes it worse is that so many junctions these days do have a give way line and signs, which means it is easy to forget about it. Around here there are enough that we're always on our toes, bith in town, in villages and on the open road. It does seem counter-intuitive to those of us from the UK to give way to side roads (when there are no give-way markings) when you're clearly on the main road.
